FoCo Café
Outcome/Summative/Impact Evaluation
Overview
FoCo Café is a nonprofit restaurant located in Fort Collins that strives to build community by offering nutritious meals to all, irrespective of their ability to pay. Operating on a pay-what-you-can model, patrons determine meal prices through a donation box, encouraging both generosity and community involvement. Emphasizing local, organic, and sustainable ingredients, the daily menu is sustained by donations, promoting wellness and healthy eating. The cafe values the inherent dignity of every individual and emphasizes community participation and support. Beyond meals, FoCo Cafe provides an intimate venue for meetings, available on a donation basis, reinforcing their commitment to an inclusive and supportive community hub.
Evaluation Approach
Evaluators worked closely with the FOCO Cafe Executive Director to develop a comprehensive logic model for the restaurant. Furthermore, the café was interested in collecting data on their customers’ and volunteers’ demographics, satisfaction, and experiences. Together, we collaboratively developed multiple survey instruments and began data collection through the Google platform. Evaluators then designed a data dashboard using Google Looker Studio to provide automatically updated data visualizations of the survey data, which the client can filter using multiple variables. The client plans to use the dashboard to evaluate the cafe’s operational processes and offerings and to apply for federal grant opportunities.
